“That ICPA Qld lobbies the Department of Education (DoE) to double the Remote Area Travel Allowance (RATrA) within the Living Away from Home Allowance (LAFHAS) for students who meet specified circumstances requiring an escort to accompany them travelling between home and boarding school.”
Within our branch, several families are, or are likely in the future, required to escort their child/ren to and from boarding school due to specific circumstances such as age, medical needs, special needs or limited access to suitable travel options. Under the current remote area travel allowance, it does not adequately reflect the true cost incurred by families when an escort is required to cover additional transport costs and incidentals, placing significant strain on families accessing a compulsory education for their children away from their home.
